In July of 2012, when I was 15 years old, my mom was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. After going with her to multiple appointments, tests, and visits to Mayo clinic, I saw many cancer and chemo patients, I knew that I wanted to do something to help.

Cancer, especially breast cancer receives so much research funding, but I wanted to help the patients that were suffering through it right now. I knew that I couldn’t cure them, but I could try to bring a smile to their face. Breast cancer patients probably receive the most support, but there are so many other types of cancers out there that are still affecting people. I don’t want to leave anyone out.

ABOUT US

The organization started off small in December of 2012. The original project consisted of assembling twenty-five bags and distributing them at MN Oncology Waconia. I got the idea from items that my Mom found helpful during her chemotherapy treatments. I felt that not all cancer patients had the support system that my Mom had. The idea of filling bags with items of comfort and care for cancer patients has grown tremendously. To date, we have assembled and distributed over 600 bags to oncology clinics. Lauren's Chemo Care Bags is excited to announce that we have been granted official, legal non-profit status.

You can help! We need donations and groups of volunteers to assemble the bags. Motivational and uplifting cards would be appreciated too. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am also hoping to expand volunteer groups or organizations and businesses that would be willing to take this on as an annual event. This would mean that the Oncology clinics would know that there are bags waiting to be given to the patients. To find out more about volunteering or donating, please visit the get involved or donate section of the site.

Your help is greatly appreciated!
